FOG -
Fats, Oils, and Grease

Disposing of FOG correctly is essential to ensure that your home’s plumbing and ECUA sewer lines don’t get clogged and cause sanitary sewer overflows. Pouring cooking grease down the drain is not recommended because as grease cools, it hardens, leading to clogged plumbing or sewer line.

FOG Recycles into Biodiesel Fuel

ECUA will collect FOG from any of our Residential Grease Recycling Stations for recycling into biodiesel fuel.

Other ways to dispose of FOG:

  1. Pour cooled fats, oils and grease into a container in the trash.

  2. Before washing, use a paper napkin or paper towel to wipe FOG from dishes and pans.

  3. Use sink strainers. Do not throw food down a garbage disposal.

  4. Put food scraps in the trash

SSO's -
Sanitary Sewer Overflows

What is a Sanitary Sewer Overflow, or SSO?

An SSO is when a pipe get clogged and either backs up or bursts and causes sewage to spill out into the environment.

What Causes SSO's?

SSO's are usually caused by a buildup of things that should not be flushed or poured down the drain.

How can we help prevent SSO's?

We can help prevent SSO's by being mindful of what we flush and pour down the drain.

The only thing that is flushable is Toilet Paper!

Nothing else should ever be flushed

Some examples of what not to flush include:

  • Paper towels

  • Napkins

  • Bandaids

  • Hair

  • Dental Floss

  • Even "flushable wipes" are NOT flushable!
